Talk about a match made in heaven – British accessories designer Lulu Guinness has teamed up with her favourite London restaurant, Daphne’s, to design a chic limited edition Lulu Guinness dog bowl inspired by her Westie, also called Daphne!
Here we talk of dining out, weekends away and flights of fancy to NYC…
When dining at Daphne’s with Daphne, what do the pair of you order?
My favourite is the Tuna Carpaccio with Sicilian Blood Orange & Puntarella to start followed by the Roast Chicken Breast with Borlotti Beans and Pale Aubergine. I often sneak Daphne a doggy biscotti, you have to make sure you abide by the Doggy Code of Conduct rules though! (These include having the dogs tucked neatly under the table and addressing any canines with real diamonds in their collar as HRH!)
Daphne’s has an alluring cocktail menu – the Sole Mio with Absolut Elyx, pink citrus and prosecco foam sounds wonderful and even the Driver’s Drinks like Limonata Amalfitana (mint, citrus and San Pellegrino) appeal. What is the special appeal of dining at this renowned Italian restaurant for you?
Daphne’s was already one of my go to restaurants for special family occasions and now that Daphne can join too it means the whole family can enjoy a celebratory meal together in the beautiful conservatory.
I love your photo with Yasmin Le Bon and her daughter Amber (plus their Pug and Long-Haired Chihuahua) at the Lulu Guinness dog bowl launch party. How does Daphne get along with other dogs in the fashion industry?
She’s very well behaved and loves the company of other dogs from all walks of life not just the fashion industry!
Dogs have graced many of your handbag designs – I spy Dachshunds, Yorkies and Pugs! Do you have a favourite dog-themed bag you still use or love?
Yes my all-time favourite was a Poodle shaped bag which I designed years and years ago.
You seem to have a great affection for the Westie breed…
Yes, I do. Until recently Daphne had a brother called Woffle – he was 14 years old and we were very sad to lose him. Westies have very loyal and sweet characters and I just love them.
If you could click your fingers and wake up anywhere in the world with Daphne, what destination would you most like to experience together and why?
New York, as my daughter is studying over there and Daphne misses her terribly.
What is your fondest memory of taking a trip with Daphne?
I often escape to the country on the weekends, we had a place in Gloucestershire and Daphne loves a long weekend in the countryside.
