Here we compare passport stamps and learn about Crusoe’s life ON THE ROAD!

When traveling in the car, are you a) sat in your owner’s lap, paws on the steering wheel b) head out the window taking it all in c) laid-back and snoozing or d) secure in carrier e) other behavior!

Either on someone’s lap or snoozing in the back seat. We do a lot of driving – too much actually. Every other weekend we drive up to my chalet in the country which is 3 hours each way. I’m so used to driving that it’s just become a nap-time for me – not really an adventure. But, if we’re driving in a new place, I do like to stand up and peer out the window.

Not many people actually know this, but I love music, and even have some favorite songs – when Timber by Pitbull and Ke$ha starts playing on the car radio, I’ll hop up from my bed, grab the closest squeaky toy and start squeaking away to the tune!

If you could click your toenails and wake up anywhere in the world, what new destination would you most like to experience and why?

Hmmm.. there’s so many! Australia would definitely be one just because I don’t think I’ll ever really get the chance to go there in my lifetime. It’s so far and they have a quarantine rule last time I checked. I’m wayyy too famous to be quarantined like that. So if I could just magically “poof” appear there, that’d be pretty awesome.

There are many other places I will be traveling to if all goes well though – including my upcoming book signing tour across the US and Canada (see end of the post for details!), and then after that, maybe even St. Lucia! (Shh, I haven’t told anyone about that one yet though).

What is your fondest trip memory?

I really enjoyed my first trip to the Bahamas. We were on the island of Eleuthera which is very quiet and off-the-beaten-track. We had long, pink-sandy beaches all to ourselves. I discovered that I loved digging in the sand. I would chase my squeaky ball up and down the beach, and then bury it in the sand. Then I’d get excited to the fact it was buried, and then I’d dig it up. Thus repeat. The next morning when I went to do my business outside, Mum and Dad discovered I pooped a log of 100% pure Bahamian sand. They were a bit worried, but a quick internet search revealed that a little olive oil will help lubricate the pipes! All was good.

I also really enjoyed my recent trip to Europe with Mum, Dad, Uncle Jack, and Aunt Carol. I love when the whole family is together. I had such an adventure exploring the enchanting coastlines of Cinque Terre, Italy…

And hiking the majestic Swiss mountains – only to discover snow atop them! And I love snowballs! I really enjoyed how dog-friendly Europe is, too. I could actually see myself living there.

Do you have an all-time favorite dog-friendly accommodation? Perhaps one that went above and beyond in terms of making you welcome?

The Residence Inn by Marriott was so kind as to work with us on our book signing tour, so that’s where I’m staying as I go cross-country. It’s perfect because their rooms are more longer-stay style with mini kitchens which is the type of accommodation Mum and Dad prefer.

Have you ever had any doggie disasters while traveling?

I’m a pretty good traveler, so none really pop into my head. Although I remember one time on one of our first longer flights with Mum and Dad, they were really fretting because I hadn’t gone pee in a long time, and were worried I’d pee in the carrier while on the plane. This is all happening mid-flight BTW. So anyway, Mum insisted that Dad take me to the airplane lavatory to try and make me pee on a little puppy pee pee pad they had brought along. So once in the bathroom, Dad laid out the little pad on the floor and placed me on it, telling me to “go pee pee”. I wasn’t having it, so Dad removed me and tried peeing a little on the pad himself to spur me into thinking that’s what I’m supposed to do. It still didn’t work, and I just thought he was a huge weirdo.

Any tried & tested tips for happy dog travels?

Getting used to traveling as a puppy is important I think. Ever since I was little Mum and Dad have been taking me on road trips and flying back and forth between Toronto and Ottawa. That will definitely make traveling a lot easier. Besides that, just make sure you’re well equipped. I have three main carriers I bring on every trip, which are: a carry-on pet carrier for the plane, a sling bag for carrying me around on hikes or long walks when I get tired, and a little shoulder bag that I can be concealed in if we need to sneak into someplace that’s maybe not totally dog-friendly!

And depending what country you go to, there’s different requirements in terms of vaccinations, health certificates and import permits. Sometimes you need to start the import process at least 6 months in advance so keep that in mind! Some place may even require the dog to be quarantined for a while upon arriving. I don’t travel to those places, because, as I say, I’m just way too famous to be quarantined!

What a truly FANTASTIC interview with Crusoe the Celebrity Dachshund. I was laughing seriously out loud with the bit about Crusoe’s Dad going wee wee on the pee pad mid flight on the airplane to “spur inspiration”. Oh my Dog, I almost woke my Mommy up it was so funny!!
