The 10 Cutest Pet Brand Names at SuperZoo 2015

July 18, 2015

It’s SuperZoo time! This week nearly 1,000 pet brands converge on Las Vegas to woo pet industry buyers with their wares – coming soon to a pet store near you!

Handily, SuperZoo offers attendees an Exhibitor List ahead of time so you can do some pre-research then target the booths that most appeal. As I’m scrolling from A-Z, certain names grab my attention, either for their cuteness, cleverness or the fact that I just have to know what the likes of Smoochy Poochy are selling…

Here’s my list of THE 10 CUTEST PET BRAND NAMES AT SUPERZOO 2015:

1. KISS MY MUTT

This may be my favourite name – delightfully cheeky but brimming with love! Run by two sunny sisters from Santa Barbara, KISS MY MUTT’s speciality is bright collars and leashes and magazine-worthy photography! Their products have been featured in Modern Dog, Dog Fancy, OK and even Vogue UK!

2. LOOK WHO’S HAPPY

“Put a smile in their life because they put a smile in yours!” Sounds reasonable – and what better way to do that than with  a Chicken & Blueberry treat (from the Tempt’n Tenders range, created by family run Big Creek Foods in Georgia.)

I first saw this sun protection product in a pet store in Palm Springs, appropriately enough given the scorching desert heat there. Until this point I was unaware that skin cancer was on the rise in dogs and that most human sunscreens were toxic to dogs. The product was created by Jill Stephens, a woman with a beauty industry background who also had skin cancer on her own nose (and thus became concerned about her dog’s) My Dog Nose It offers natural, safe and water resistant care in a silky balm. Great name!

4. BEDTIME BONES

This ‘organic bedtime treat with chamomile’ scores high on the adorable scale – in terms of name, design and logo. Just look at this contented little fella snoozing beneath the stars… I love the idea of a bedtime ritual with Bodie crunching on his chamomile bone while I sip my chamomile tea…

5. PUPPY CAKE

Put the words puppy and cake together and that’s one irresistible combination! The company’s doggie cake mix kits were showcased on Shark Tank and even though founder Kelly Costello didn’t get a deal, the TV appearance boosted profits by $32k in the first month alone! Sales continue to soar and flavours now include Pumpkin Spice and Red Velvet. As you can see from the pic, Puppy Cake also offers a range of ice-creams including Maple Bacon which, frankly, I’d like to try!

6. SCAREDY CUT

Bodie’s fur doesn’t require shaping or trimming but I thought this was such a clever name for ‘the world’s only silent clipper, offering gentle grooming for sensitive pets’. A good alternative for buzz-phobic pets.

7. SMOOCHY POOCHY

This brand name takes cuteness so far it becomes cool, while also conjuring that feeling of burying your face in your dog’s fur and loving on him/her until they just can’t take any more. Owner Meera Brown offers water-friendly collars and some nifty ‘hands-free’ leashes, so you can opt to tie it around your waist, say for jogging or (in my case) when you’re trying to carry a coffee and a donut.

8. SOGGY DOGGY

It takes me a minimum of two towels to dry off Bodie after a bath or rain shower so I’m keen to try the ‘super-absorbant microfiber chenille’ of the SOGGY DOGGY shammies. They also offer doormats and an ingenious Slobber Swabber for the excessive droolers in your life but my favourite concept is this wet-dog-friendly bed…

9. THE WORTHY DOG

I pictured a noble dog, possibly wearing spectacles and what I discovered was some of the cutest dog fashion in town. No frou-frou frills and bedazzling here, the dog sweaters are especially stylish and I can already see Bodie sporting the teal striped knit and Burberry-look fleece (with matching collar). And then there’s the blue toboggan hat with a pom-pom on top and slits for your dogs ears. I’m not sure how Bodie will feel about that but I simply can’t resist…

10. TIMBERWOLF

I’m already familiar with this brand as they make Bodie’s leash of choice (Alpine Lead – sturdy braided rope with comfort foam grip handle). We’ve had sets in chocolate, burgundy and the dark green pictured here in La Jolla, CA but I have to include Timberwolf on the list as I absolutely love this name. It sounds both natural and aspirational – I think every dog would like to think he has a bit of wild wolf in him!
